Dear friends and members,
Please note that our club is currently in its yearly summer break. This allows us to enjoy the wonderful things Montreal has to offer during the summer, such as the Montreal International Jazz Festival, the Montreal International Fireworks Competition, the Just for Laughs Festival, and many more!

Our club will be back to its regular Toastmasters meeting schedule starting on Tuesday September 7.

We would like to strongly encourage our St-Lawrence Toastmasters member Pietro di Benedetto, who will be competing at the upcoming Toastmasters World Championship of Public Speaking competition that will be held on Thursday Aug. 12, 2010 at the Toastmasters International Convention in Palm Desert, California.
To make it this far, Pietro has won at the club level, the area-level, the division-level, and the district-level Toastmasters contests.
His next challenge will be the semifinal contest that will take place Thursday Aug. 12. That day, there will be nine contests, each with contestants from nine different districts (Pietro di Benedetto will be competing in Contest 1), and the nine winners will advance to the final round, which will be held on Saturday Aug. 14, 2010.
The winner of the final round will become the 2010 World Champion of Public Speaking. This is our Toastmasters equivalent of winning the gold medal at the Olympics!

Sylvie Bibeau was inducted this week by President Marie-Paule Gagnon. Sylvie is far from being a beginner in communication, as she loves communications: she worked in journalism and led many events. She also wants to perfect her English and improve her inpromptu speaking, this is why she joined the club.

La présidente Marie-Paule Gagnon a eu le plaisir de diriger l’intronisation de Sylvie Bibeau cette semaine. Sylvie est passionné par la communication et a beaucoup d’expérience dans le domaine : elle a travaillé en journalisme et a animé de nombreux événements. Ce qu’elle vient chercher au club est un endroit où perfectionner son anglais et pratiquer les discours d’improvisation.

Ce fût un honneur d’accueillir Lex au club, la semaine passée. Alors qu’elle exprimait ses raisons qui la motivait à nous joindre, Lex a présenté un discour si bien ficellé qu’on eut dit sont brise glace. Elle a mentionné qu’ayant fait le saut de vivre au Québec et de se plonger dans la communauté francophone, elle appréciait avoir la possibilité de parler anglais au club pour ne pas s’enrouiller. De plus, elle n’a pas vraiment besoin de parole en public à son travail actuel, mais entrevoit le désir de faire des présentations dans l’avenir. («Ne vous habillez pas pour votre emploi actuel mais pour l’emploi de vos rêves.»)

Welcome abord Julie Leduc and Philippe Bélanger ! Hope you meet your objectives : Julie to improve your leadership and speak in public skills, and Philippe build your speech structure and gain confidence. It is, like usual, with pleasure that President Marie-Paule Gagnon leaded the induction of our new members.
